Request For Proposal
Parker Associates has completed drafting a Request For Proposal to identify the best developer to joint venture with the public/private ownership group for a new world-class resort community along the Caribbean Sea at the historic port of Cartagena; the primary vacation destination for Colombians and an increasingly popular destination for international tourists. The RFP will be sent to selected resort developers around the world this summer.
Small is Beautiful
David F. Parker has been invited to present a presentation on “Small is Beautiful” at the 2011 International Builder Show in Orlando in January. Architect Darryl Patterson of BSB Design and Marketing Consultant Bill Webb will join Dr. Parker in this presentation of future trends in the housing industry. A copy of his article on this topic is available by contacting Chris Parker at (904) 992-9888 or jchris@parkerassociates.com.
2010-2011 New Home Forecast
Although the economy is still not recovering at a comfortable pace, the metric indices are sufficiently stable to provide a rational housing projection for the coming year. The following data are excerpted from several sources including the National Home Builders Association and the National Association of Realtors, as well as private economics sources.

Barrancas del Cobre

The Mexican State of Chihuahua has announced the August 2010 opening of the long-awaited cable train descending into the famous Copper Canyon. In addition to the 60-passenger cable cars from the top of the canyon, the new attraction will include 8-passenger satellite cars serving a carousel of destinations on the floor of the canyon. This canyon has long been the major feature of the Chepe Railroad tour from Chihuahua to the Pacific Coast. Now, it will be possible to tour the bottom of the canyon by cable car as well as view it from the rim. Also, under construction a few miles north in Creel, is a new international airport expected to be completed for tourist travel directly to Barrancas del Cobre in 2011. In 2007, Parker Associates completed a Marketing Feasibility Study for 10,000 acre property adjacent to the new airport.

Housing Affordability
Low house prices and favorable interest rates have combined to produce the second highest level of housing affordability since the series was initiated 18 years ago.  The NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Opportunity Index (HOI) indicates
that 70.8 percent of all new and existing homes sold in the final quarter of 2009 were affordable to families earning the national median household income of $64,000. Once again, for the fourth year in a row, metropolitan Indianapolis was the most affordable housing market in the country.
