Creating a Clear Code of Conduct and Ethics and Conveying it is a MUST
Working with businesses of all sorts, PTC and the REMA Team cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a CLEAR Code of Conduct and Ethics for all employees of the business and the way they convey this to their prospects and clients. It’s just “good business” to let everyone know of the commitment to the foundations of what America is made of.
All businesses should require its officers and employees (including the officers and employees of its subsidiaries and affiliates) to observe high standards of business and personal ethics in the conduct of their duties and responsibilities. Officers and employees of the company must have a clear understanding of the policy and practice it. PTC encourages having a policy with at least the basic principal of learning to practice honesty and integrity in every aspect of dealing with each other, the public, the business community, prospects, customers, vendors and government authorities.
Company policy should distinctly focus on prohibiting unlawful discrimination against employees, shareholders, officers, prospects, customers or vendors. All persons should be treated with dignity and respect and they should not be unreasonably interfered with in the conduct of their duties and responsibilities. There should be no tolerance for anything else.
Sometimes, companies get so focused on the profitability of the company that they might forget or stray from the guiding principles. It should be clear that no officer or employee should be misguided by any sense of loyalty to the company or a desire for profitability that might cause him or her to disobey any applicable law or company policy. It should be abundantly clear to everyone in the company, and to those with whom the company does business, that a violation of any policies will constitute grounds for disciplinary action, including termination of employment or affiliation.
It’s amazing how many times we encounter companies without a clear understanding of their policies, or, even worse, no written policies to consult. It’s imperative to have a written guideline for everyone to see, understand, and consult as needed.
