Keep an eye out for Advertiser’s Fraud
Watch out for fraudulent internet advertisers. Up to nine percent (9%) of all ad spending is wasted. Firms are losing big bucks to sham publishers, ad networks and exchanges. Programmatic systems engaged in automated ad buying and selling are the most prone to fraud. And if you’re selling your own invented product on the internet, you might want to visit https://vinnews.com/2022/01/01/get-help-with-patent-protection-from-inventhelp/ to stop others from copying, manufacturing, selling or importing your invention without your permission.
Some tactics utilized to generate fraudulent ads include some of the following:
- Domain spoofing is the act of generating false reports about where ads are displayed in order to garner false traffic.
- Ad stacking creates layering “hot spots” but makes it so only the top one visible thus generating traffic for all of the ads in the hot spot.
- Device farms where workers repeatedly “like” ads to create the illusion of consumer engagement.
IAB Tech Lab is developing a tool labeled “ads.cert” to help advertisers fight back. It will help buyers authenticate impression reports and should be available for use by the year’s-end. They are also offering ads.txt, which is a tool to combat domain spoofing by limiting who can sell ad space on a website. Google will make ads.txt its ad platform’s default setting before 2019 hoping to prompt the industry to join them in attempting to fight fraudulent advertising. Today, 73% of major sites authenticate with this tool and it’s expected to grow. If you feel that you have been scammed you can hire a fraud lawyer to protect you.
